So, you've tackled other book genres and are wondering what romance reads are all about? Or maybe you love the genre but want to know what makes romance books tick. Here to answer your questions and more is ShearingHome with answers to "What are romance novels?" along with a quick word from author D A Shearing and a list of other indie romance authors to check out. We are happy you're here.

What are romance novels?
At their most basic, romance novels are those stories that have a central love story and oftentimes have an emotionally satisfying ending. The central love story often includes two or more characters who fall in love and go through struggles and tribulations to make their relationship work. In some stories, there are also subplots and other romance storylines to make the books more entertaining and engaging.
The other part of this genre — the happy ending — is another critical component. Although, some writers carry the love story along multiple books or surprise readers with a different happy ending than the one they were expecting, romance tales typically end with the characters feeling unconditional love.
What ShearingHome books are romance novels?
In short, all of the ShearingHome books are firmly in that romance genre. They all have more action-based plots but have romance and spicy scenes in them. Here's a word from D A Shearing about the different series so far:
Originally, the Perfect Series was going to be a trilogy. By the time I was done with book 2, I knew I couldn’t stop until Marc and Kati had their story. Then the trilogy was sorted in my mind. The trio were Jax, Marc, and Becky.
Before I wrote the first word in Marc and Kati’s story, I had fully developed the character for the Z-Inc. Series. Z, a warrior who flew fighter jets. A lot of the scenes written were snapshots of my own life. The twins and the story of their birth were all true events. Yes, the first doctor hit the power cord for the ultrasound and it became unplugged.
Next were the twins. Again, real-life inspired some of the stories. I couldn’t get the stories written fast enough. They just flowed out of me. Neva’s story and Becky’s story were written at the same time. From the onset, Becky was going to be the brains behind the computer systems.
Then Harper came to mind, and Adam needed a handler. That was how ResQ’d One came about. They needed an outlet. Nine was a project in the making. In the past, I had written a screenplay about a Military Working Dog. Nine’s story was developed into the ResQ’d Series.
All these characters, and more, reside in my head. I just hope that our readers enjoy them as much as I enjoyed writing their stories.
