About Kelly
Since she was a kid, Kelly Shearing has loved her books. From afternoons tucked away in her room or long summer days spent in the California sunshine, she has always turned to books. Now, instead of just reading spell-binding stories, she creates them. She loves nothing more than creating a story with plenty of action, blind-siding twists, and just a hint of steamy romance.
She grew up in Redding, California, with her twin sister, mom, dad, their German Shepherd Maxi, and a black void named Mo (okay, he was a cat). Some of her fondest memories are of tucking herself away under the bow of their boat reading a book before being launched off an inner tube during their family vacations to the “Delta”.
Variety has always been the name of the game with her mom devouring mystery romance novels, sister reading those teen angst stories, and her own love for anything fantasy related.
After years of not picking up a pen, Kelly bravely ventured back to school for her master’s in English and creative writing after her nearly eight years in the military. Since then, she hasn’t looked back. Building her confidence in the professional writing realm with non-fiction articles and educational pieces, she tested her meddle with creative writing.
Kelly loves to write science fiction and fantasy while also enjoying bouncing ideas around for action romance pieces, bringing together her past loves and current reading addictions.
She lives in Texas with her child and gets the occasional visit from her parents (who literally are only 30ish minutes down the road) and her twin.
At a young age, he started reading books that his dad favored but the struggles with reading made it difficult. In school, he struggled with all his reading assignments because the classes moved faster than he could keep up. What a way to kill the desire to pick up a book, huh?
He tried to plow forward with college, but the same struggles continued Reading the text in books was hard. Eventually, he just gave up on it altogether and set down the books for good.
After years of not picking up a book and no inspiration to even write, he felt the spark again as his twin girls entered high school. His K-pop found her passion for writing, which sent them both on a path to fulfill their need to create. She opted for a science fiction book and in 2008, he wrote his first screenplay.
That screenplay answered more questions than he thought and he found that the big reading issue all along had to do with how he was reading. Backlighting solved all his reading woes, and he finally picked those books back up. He went from struggling through one or two books a year to now reading over two hundred books a year. E-readers changed his life.
The books started with mystery, then suspense. Then, a friend suggested adult romance one day. Really, a guy reading romance novels? After reading the first romance novel he was done for. With his E-book, he could read as many books as he wanted. Retired, he finally had the time.
Over one thousand romance novels later, the spark that was Perfectly Betrayed came to life when he was traveling cross-country to help one of his twins move.
His other twin daughter, now fully invested in the content creation industry, seemed like the natural pair to the writing team. The result is their first published romance novel.
He and his wife now live in Florida. His writing partner lives close by along with their grandson. They get together as often as they can, then spend hours brainstorming ideas that one day you will all hopefully read about.
